Sylvae
"Angelo Poliziano (154-1494) was one of the great scholar-poets of the Renaissance and a leading figure in the circle of Lorenzo deMedici "il Magnifico" in Florence. His "Silvae" are poetical introductions to his courses in literature at the University of Florence, writtne in Latin hexameters. They not only contain some of the finest Latin poetry of the Reaissance, but also afford unique insight into the poetical credo of a brilliant scholar as he considers the works of his Greek and Latin predecessors as well as of his contemporaries writing in Italian."--BOOK JACKET.
Sylva in scabiem
A poetic and harrowing account of scabies. written by Poliziano in mid 15th century... apparently. I have yet to read it. and It is not available here?!?
Angelo Poliziano's Lamia
In 1492, Angelo Poliziano published his Lamia, a praelectio, or opening oration to a course he would teach that academic year on Aristotle's Prior Analytics at the Florentine university. Having heard murmurings that he was not philosopher enough to teach the Aristotelian text, Poliziano strikes back, offering in effect a fable-tinted history of philosophy. More than a repudiation of local gossip, the text represents a rethinking of the mission of philosophy. This volume offers the first English translation, an edition of the Latin text, and four studies that set this rich example of humanist Latin writing in context. --Book Jacket.
