Description
Burton Russell, a native of Kentville, Nova Scotia and a graduate of Acadia University with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees , later earned diplomas in Physical Education and School Administration from the Nova Scotia Department of Education. For a total of 35 years, he served as a high school teacher-athletic coach in Annapolis Valley-based schools. Author of 11 books on Nova Scotia sports, he was honored by induction in 2000 to Acadia University's Sports Hall of Fame as a a builder-historian. For a period of 24 seasons, he has been the official Statistician of the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League. Born in 1934 and retired from teaching for the past 20 years, he has become an avid golfer, being a member of three provincially-located clubs. His most recent book, Acadia's Hockey Axemen, was published during the summer of 2012.

Baseball Memories
This 560-page publication contains literally hundreds of facts relating to the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League from the summer of 1977 to the fall of 2002. Recognized as one of the premier amateur baseball leagues in Canada, the loop includes such teams as the Kentville Wildcats and the Dartmouth Moosehead Dry that have captured national senior men's championships.Several of its performers have starred in major league ball, including New Brunswick natives Matt Stairs and Rheal Cormier. This 168-page publication focuses on the winning ways of KCA's hockey teams of that era ranging from the 1920s to the early 1980s. During that 60-year time period , the teams representing Kings County Academy located in Kentville , Nova Scotia won 15 provincial championships and narrowly missed capturing several other provincial titles. Written by provincial sports historian, Burton Russell, the book contains plenty of personal anecdotes from the author who was destined to be behind the KCA bench in a coaching capacity for 16 seasons. Facts and anecdotes are complemented by many black- and -white coloured action shots, team photos and individual head shots.

This 356-page book contains many pictures, statistics and photos of legendary Nova Scotia -based senior baseball clubs from the early 1920s to the early 1990s. It is arranged in chronological order with yearly team and individual achievements highlighted. The highly regarded Halifax and District Baseball League that existed from 1946 to 1959 and sent approximately 30 performers to the majors is singled out for plenty of attention. In a similar way, a lot of focus is on senior amateur clubs that won national titles.
A Century of Hockey Heroics
This 440-page book is a detailed history of hockey in Nova Scotia from the early 1920s to the end of the twentieth century. It cotains statistical and anecedotal accounts arranged in chronological order of great Nova Scotia-based teams that competed for the Memorial Cup, Allan Cup, Viscount Alexander Cup, etc. There are many black and white-coloured photos of legendary teams and individuals. University hockey in the Maritimes is covered quite extensively with plenty of emphasis on Canadian titles.
Acadia's Hockey Axemen
Acadia's Hockey Axemen is a soft-covered 274 page history of Acadia University's intercollegiate hockey team. It contains 47 black and white and colored picture pages of teams, individuals and action shots. The opening chapters relate the early history of the university and briefly describes the introduction to the campus of such sports as rugby, tennis, gymnastics and baseball. It begins the history of hockey at Acadia in the early 1890s and subsequently presents a chronological history of the intercollegiate sport up to and including the playoffs of the 2011-12 season.Highlights of the Axemen's on-ice heroics include their Canadian Intercollegiate championships of 1992-93 and 1995-96.
