The question this book tries to answer is one of language. How can we speak of God to the men of our day? Between the God who seeks man, and the man who seeks God, the path must be found. The relatively new science of linguistics, which is concerned with the development and changes in speech and language, studies such problems as definition, ambiguity, vernaculars, liturgical usage and Biblical translations. The author here provides a useful and fascinating introduction to this new science. He shows how linguistics provides new insights and facts concerning the religious heritage of mankind. The major part of the book is concerned with the specifically religious implications that arise from a knowledge of linguistics. Here questions of interpretation, Biblical exegesis and translation are all studied in depth.
