About Author

William Barclay

William Barclay (5 December 1907 – 24 January 1978) was a Scottish author, radio and television presenter, Church of Scotland minister, and Professor of Divinity and Biblical Criticism at the University of Glasgow. He wrote a set of Bible commentaries on the New Testament that sold 1.5 million copies.

Description

The Bible has been translated into many languages from the biblical languages of Aramaic, Greek, and Hebrew. The Latin Vulgate translation was dominant in Western Christianity through the Middle Ages. Since then, the Bible has been translated into many more languages. English Bible translations also have a rich and varied history of more than a millennium. Included when possible are dates and the source language(s) and, for incomplete translations, what portion of the text has been translated.

I read the general introduction: "aim - to convey the results of scholarship to the ordinary reader." and Dr. Barclay does exactly that. I have thus far read two thirds of his book and have learned more about John and His Gospel than I would have thought existed. I would like to shake the hand of Dr. Barclay and thank him for his work. I highly recommend this book.
