About Author

Joan Fleming

Joan Fleming was born and educated in Edinburgh, Scotland. After university there, she became a teacher of French and German, for a short period in the London area, then in the West of Scotland. She now lives in a flat on the outskirts of Glasgow overlooking the West Highland Way. Since leaving education, she now concentrates on creative writing. She has had short stories and articles published in magazines in both the UK and America, and has won a number of awards for her writing. Her interests include: reading, walking, travel, islands (anywhere!) and the life and work of Robert Burns. Her début novel, WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS (Magic of Mull series #1), was followed by (Magic of Mull #2), SPIRIT IF THE ISLAND, both published by Tirgearr Publishing. The series is set mainly on the Scottish islands of Mull and Iona, and her third novel, DAUGHTER OF MULL (Magic of Mull #3), was released in 2017. In August 2020, the three-book series of the Magic of Mull was republished by Amazon in both eBook and paperback. In February 2019, Tirgearr e-published MOMENT OF TRUTH, the first book in THE ROWANBRAE SERIES, set in a village in the heart of Scotland.

Description

The scene is Helsinki's splendid harbour overlooked by a South American Embassy where the Ambassador carries out his ambassadorial duties. Every human drama in the calendar takes place at some time or another in the small cosmos he surveys, including the one that begins on his own front doorstep in the pale early light of a new day. It involves a kind old Russian who befriends drop-outs; a red-headed cosmetic demonstrator from New England on a business tour of Northern Europe; an English business executive turned street busker with a missing ear; and a wild Lapp reindeer farmer from the Arctic Circle who is becoming Americanized. None of it need have happened if the Lapp had not lost his nerve about the fortune he was carrying in a plastic bag, but why he did so and what the consequences were will provide Joan Fleming's many fans with one of the best and brightest of her scintillating entertainments.
