Hill was an early 20th century novelist and wrote both under her own name and the pseudonym 'Marcia Macdonald'. She was immensely popular during her lifetime and wrote over 100 novels and numerous short stories. Her characters were most often young female ingénues, frequently strong Christian women or those who become so within the confines of the story. (Wikipedia) : /authors/OL39761A

Description

Blythe Bonniwell was finished with college and settling in at home, finding her place in various activities to support the boys fighting overseas. She had her small group of friends, among them lifelong friend Dan Seavers. Although Dan was her frequent escort, she counted him only a good friend. One day, Blythe had a caller, a former classmate named Charlie Montgomery. He was heading out to take on a dangerous assignment that held little hope of returning alive. As he had no living close relatives, Charlie came to say goodbye to Blythe. Blythe had always admired Charlie from afar, feeling challenged academically by him and following his athletic accomplishments. Likewise, Charlie had admired and been challenged by Blythe. His observation of her over the years grew from admiration to a genuine love. With the almost certain result of his mission being death, he risked telling Blythe of his love before departing, believing that as someone who didn't belong in her "set", he was giving her a sort of tribute, not daring to hope that she'd feel the same. His declaration awakened in Blythe an echoing love. They each seek out God, believing that they'd have only the hereafter in which to love. How will they handle the long separation and uncertainty? How does Blythe respond to Dan's sudden marriage proposal? Read on and see!
