Martin Buber, der am 8. Februar 1878 in Wien zur Welt kam und am 13. Juni 1965 in Jerusalem gestorben ist, gehört zweifelsohne zu den zentralen Gestalten des europäischen Judentums unseres Jahrhunderts. Er wurde zum Botschafter für den Geist des Judentums, vor allem im deutschen Sprachbereich, wirkte aber darüber hinaus auf die christliche Theologie des gesamten Abendlandes.
