Stephen Fischer-Galati was President of the Society for Romanian Studies from 1978–1980, a founding board member of the Society for Romanian Studies (then the Romanian Studies Group) in 1973–1976, Distinguished Professor, Emeritus at the University of Colorado, and the Editor of Eastern European Quarterly and East European Monographs. The Romania-born American was also the author or co-author of more than 250 articles and 15 books.
