Raoul Dufy

"Raoul Dufy, peintre normand originaire du Havre, découvre le Midi en 1903. Il est alors installé à Paris et expose chez Berthe Weill. Martigues est sa première destination sur le littoral méditerranéen. C'est là qu'il découvre la lumière éclatante du Sud, le ciel bleu balayé par le mistral, le soleil qui découpe et irradie. Revenant à de nombreuses reprises entre 1903 et 1920, il y retrouve d'autres artistes qui séjournent également entre la Côte Bleue et l'Estaque, tels Derain ou Braque. Découvertes et expérimentations jalonnent ces séjours durant lesquels l'art moderne se construit et Dufy élabore son style. L'exposition "Dufy, de Martigues à l'Estaque", proposée par le musée Ziem, présente, pour la première fois, les travaux de jeunesse de cet artiste, permettant ainsi de voir évoluer son travail sur plus de 20 ans. Véritable événement, de nombreuses œuvres, pour la plupart inédites et provenant des plus grandes collections d'Art moderne publiques françaises (Centre Pompidou, musée d'art moderne de la Ville de Paris, musée Cantini de Marseille, musée de Grenoble, musée d'Art moderne André-Malraux du Havre ...) sont présentées à cette occasion. Sont également exposées des œuvres issues de collections publiques et privées étrangères (New York, Londres) qui ont consenti des prêts à titre tout à fait exceptionnel. Conçue comme un des temps forts de Marseille-Provence 2013, cette exposition est associée aux grandes expositions du musée Granet d'Aix-en-Provence et du musée des Beaux-Arts/Palais Longchamp de Marseille, regroupées sous le terme "Grand atelier du Midi"."--P. of cover.

Refugee to Ceret at the beginning of the Second World War, Raoul Dufy (Le Havre, 1877 - Forcalquier, 1953), enters in 1941 in relation with Dr. Pierre Nicolau . In his private clinic in Perpignan, he undertakes to treat the painful polyarthritis that handicaps the artist since the mid-30s. The doctor soon accommodates him for six months in his own family. This is the beginning of Dufy's Perpignan period, which will not end until 1950, when he leaves for the United States. The exhibition will bring together for the first time a very significant set of these workshops in Perpignan, and will report stays made by Dufy in Vernet-les-Bains , Boulou or, on the Spanish side, Caldes de Monbui , where the cures lead spa. To illustrate Raoul Dufy's diverse production in Perpignan, the exhibition will focus on three of his favorite themes during this period: the reinterpretation of the Masters, the representations of music and the painting of flowers. Finally, his specific activity in the field of decorative arts will be highlighted for the first time. Relying on an original private archive and drawing on numerous French and foreign collections, the Hyacinthe-Rigaud art museum aims to honor a still unknown period of one of the most aptly of the first half of the 20th century.--Hyacinthe Rigaud Perpignan.
