The collected stories of Moacyr Scliar
"Superb volume consists of Scliar's six collections of stories published between 1968-89, three of which have never before been rendered into English. Excellently translated, work conveys in fluent, evocative prose Scliar's enormous success in this difficult form. Stories range from biblical parables, through magical realism, to fantastic and humorous accounts. Concludes with a short autobiographical essay"--Handbook of Latin American Studies, v. 58.
The ballad of the false Messiah

Do Éden ao Divã. Humor judaico
Max and the cats
This book is a great metaphor for the political issues that was taking place in Brazil at the time this book was written by Moacyr Scliar. This book was recently matter of discussion due to the prized book “Life of Pi” in which a film by the same name was made and is turning a real success of public. Life o Pi by the Canadian writer Yamn Martel is too similar to this book by Moacyr Scliar. It caused some controversy including some plagiarism accusations. But the Brazilian author who passed away in 2011 decided not to sue Yam Martel, considering it was not a plagiarism itself but the appropriation of his idea, something that has happened several times in the history of literature. But Scliar said in an interview to get very upset about the way Martel said to get in touch with his book almost disdaining him as a second category writer.
