He describes in great detail the people he meets and the Mayan ruins he encounters along this completely wild coast which would eventually become the Riviera Maya south of Cancun. This book is a must read for anyone interested in travel, Mayan ruins, and the Quintana Roo coast of Mexico. If you travel to that area today you will find very little left of what Peissel found when he made his walk there.
