This novel is about a missionary in Thailand (then called Siam) who is running a home for girls. She tries to help a western woman unhappily married to a Thai Prince. This novel is based on Landon's experiences in Thailand. Margaret Landon also wrote Anna and the King of Siam, which became a film and a Broadway musical, The King and I
