Jane C. Webb Loudon
Personal Information
Description
An early pioneer of science fiction, long before the term was invented, so that she was discussed for a century as a writer of Gothic fiction or fantasy or horror, though she did none of these things as we now categorize fiction. She is better known for her work in creating the first popular gardening manuals, providing an alternative to the specialist horticultural tomes of her time, and for her contributions to the work of her husband, [John Claudius Loudon].
Books
Glimpses of nature, and objects of interest described, during a visit to the Isle of Wight
The entertaining naturalist being popular descriptions, tales, and anecdotes of more than five hundred animals..
The mummy
Doomed forever to wander the earth, desperate to quell his insatiable hungers, Ramses the Damned turns up in Edwardian London as Dr. Ramsey and begins a romance with heiress Julie Stratford, but his cursed past again propels him toward disaster.
Domestic pets: their habits and management
It's surprising what people were able to get away with writing in the mid-1800s. I'd equate it with the desktop publishing era of the 1990s. In spite of this, Loudon writes several chapters on domestic pets, each about a different animals. The squirrel anecdotes in Chapter 3 are entertaining.
