Jamison Green (he/him) is a white trans man and professional writer who began medical transition in 1988, when resources and awareness were limited. He started his activism soon after, leading FTM (female-to-male) International from 1991 to 1999, the first community-based organization for transmasculine people, and authoring the classic Becoming a Visible Man. He contributes to many academic anthologies and journals and holds BA and MFA degrees from the University of Oregon (1970, 1972), and a PhD in Law from Manchester Metropolitan University (2011); he has been featured regularly in the media and at innumerable conferences and has consulted globally on trans rights. Navigating Trans and Complex Gender Identities

"We all encounter others whose gender identities differ from our own, whether it is in the classroom, in public, in the media or online. For many, there is anxiety about which words to use in conversation and sometimes people keep quiet so as to not offend someone whose gender identity may not be readily discernible, when in actuality, what they desire is to understand, learn, and interact. This book offers practical research-based strategies for expanding personal, social and political awareness about gender-identity privileges - helping the reader to work through fears and unpack ingrained communication patterns and language. In order to better understand the ever-evolving landscape of gender identity the authors provide historical and political background for the transgender movement and consider how issues of age, culture, race, social class, media, celebrity and religion affect transgender identities. The book includes a glossary of key terms, a foreword from leading transgender rights activist, Jamison Green, and an afterword by Meredith Talusan, Contributing Editor at them. Written for educators and individuals committed to learning about changes and shifts in gender identities, this book gives grounded, real-time, practical and solution-oriented ideas and language about how to be a better communicator, listener and responder to trans and non-binary gender identities."--

Surviving Transphobia is an anthology by 16 prominent transgender and gender nonbinary celebrities and experts on endurance during times of severe hostility. We share the moments when we were vulnerable, were bullied, had needs dismissed, or were discriminated against, revealing our determination and how we have (sometimes) managed to thrive. We relate our thoughts on the current, well-funded campaign threatening our very existence. All so you can learn from our experience, and hopefully, thrive and find joy. This book is an LGBTQIA+, transgender and nonbinary resource for those coping with transphobia. We also speak to our allies, those nearer or even those with less direct connection to transgender and nonbinary people but who are eager to understand and support our vulnerable community.

More Than Just a Flag

"More That Just A Flag is the autobiography of Trans Flag creator, trans activist and Navy veteran, Monica F. Helms. Monica's book details the major events of her life, from childhood through to the books publication in 2019. Included are her service in the U.S. Navy as a submariner, and her personal journey to discovering her true self as a trans woman, including the subsequent battles she fought with her civilian employer, Sprint. Helms recalls her creation of the Transgender Pride Flag in 1999, and her donation of the original to the Smithsonian in 2014. Monica details her founding of the Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA) in 2003, where she went on to serve as president for ten years. Along with numerous other examples of her trans activism, including holding Atlanta's first TDOR event in 2000, Helms recounts lobbying state legislators in Arizona and Georgia, as well as in D.C., and being elected a delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention. At times, funny, at others, necessarily sad, More Than Just A Flag is the story of a leader in the fight for transgender acceptance, at a time when the trans community was just coalescing and finding its voice."--Amazon.com.
