Books
The book of horses
Presents the fundamentals of training, riding and tending a horse. Includes a brief history of the many breeds.
Buck, wild
This book traces the first four years in the life of a wild mustang stallion with an unconquerable urge to be free.
The midnight colt
When Ben and his younger sister Dixie acquire Peck, the skittish, high-strung race horse that everyone seems to have given up on, they are convinced that, with patience and care, they can retrain him to be a winner on the track.
Indian paint
When his pinto pony runs off with a wild herd, a young Indian boy sets out to find him.
Wild Horse
This story is about a young man (Ben is about 13) and his younger sister, Dixie (love her independent spirit!) who monitor a wild horse herd several miles away from their ranch, in the wilds of Idaho. A new stallion has taken over, a huge black horse with obvious good breeding. They name him "King", and are cheered by the idea of his progeny helping to improve the "broomtails/scrubs" breeding of the area. But when men arrive with intent to either capture or kill King, Ben and Dixie try to come up with a plan to save him.
The flaxy mare
The story of an orphaned mustang filly, rescued and raised by a young cowboy and released to the wilds and freedom of the range.
Christmas Horse
A sequel to "Wild Horse", about Ben and his desire to own and train a son of the wild stallion "King".
Horse of two colors
After two years of captivity a young Nez Percé Indian escapes from the Spanish settlement and begins a long and tragic journey to his home in the north, taking with him the stallion that sires the first of the Appaloosa breed.
The wild mare
In Idaho, an orphaned filly, rescued by and then separated from a young cowboy, has adventures with various owners and bands of wild horses before being reunited with her old benefactor.
