George McKay was born in Glasgow, Scotland and raised in Norfolk, England. He is Professor of Cultural Studies at the University of Salford, UK, where he is Director of the Communication, Cultural & Media Studies Research Centre. He specializes in alternative cultures, subcultures, protest and social movements, music festivals and festival culture, and disability studies.
