About Author

Barbara Annette Steiner

Born in Arkansas in 1934, she moved to Boulder with her husband, Kenneth Steiner, in 1966. He preceded her in death in 2005. She first worked as a teacher, then quit to write full time. She wrote more than 70 books, picture books, animal books, humor, mysteries, horror stories, romances, school stories and historical novels. Steiner visited more than 94 countries and all seven continents, she said. She hiked the Milford Track in New Zealand and did a walking climb of Mt. Kenya in eastern Africa. She rode elephants looking for tigers in India and climbed into tombs in Egypt. She taught writing classes and workshops for children and adults across the United States and in Mexico, along with teaching creative writing at the University of Colorado at Boulder in the continuing education program for 13 years. Steiner also was the co-founder and long term member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, serving as the vice president of the Rocky Mountain Chapter from 1976 to '77 and president from 1977 to '78. Steiner collaborated with Kathleen Phillips, another Boulder author, on books about writing. Source

Death in the Desert is a fast paced, romantic thriller taken right out of the nightly news. Diabolical villains, innocent victims and noble, but engagingly flawed heros weave their way through a tangle of mystery and intrigue as heated as the Sonoran Desert itself. An Arab sponsored drug cartel shipping tons of narcotics over the border aims to see a Mexican flag flying at the White House - without a shot having been fired.
