Sky birds dare!
"Ace glider pilot Breeze Callahan is trying to demonstrate to the Navy the value of gliders and gliding techniques in war. There are two ways Breeze believes they can be used to aid the war effort: they'll keep a plane aloft when engines cut out, and gliders will be able to enter enemy airspace silently--a perfect way to spy undetected. Callahan's ruthless competitor, Badger O'Dowell, has other ideas. Badger is determined to get the Navy to buy his training ships instead. When testing gets underway to prove the strength of their designs, sabotage and betrayal threaten to destroy not only Callahan's dreams of glider flight in war, but also his life"--P. of cover flap.
Cargo of coffins
Two escaped convicts, Paco Corvino and Lars Marlin, face off in Hubbard's fast-paced high seas action yarn, first published in the November 1937 issue of Argosy. Some years after Corvino and Marlin independently broke out of French Guiana's Devil's Island, the men meet by chance in Rio de Janeiro, where the debonair Corvino works as the steward of the Valiant, a luxury yacht due to set sail. Corvino persuades the Valiant's captain to hire Marlin, who's an experienced skipper, as part of the crew, unaware that Marlin blames his hellish stint on Devil's Island on his fellow escapee. Itching to take Corvino out with his trusty .38, Marlin must bide his time as the equally dangerous Corvino fingers his knife. Contraband cargo (heroin) and the yacht owner's beautiful daughter add spice to this taut pulp melodrama.
King of the gunmen
They call him Suicide, Smoke or simply Sudden Death. His name is Kit Gordon, and from the banks of the Mississippi to the shores of the Pacific, he is King of the Gunmen. As tall and lean and tough as a young John Wayne, Kit's about to discover that sometimes it takes more than a quick draw and a sure aim to stand up like a man. Falsely accused of murder and one step ahead of a lynch mob, Kit escapes to the next county over--and a whole new identity. He changes his name and his whole outlook, teaming up with a lawman out to bring the rule of law to this untamed corner of Arizona. But the two men are soon drawn into the middle of a bloody feud between cattle ranchers and sheepherders. Before it's over, the battle will lead Kit to a moment of truth... or a lifetime of lies. He'll have to take a stand and reveal that he's a wanted man--or turn tail and run for his life, never looking back.

But when he's chosen to hunt the most dangerous desperado in the state, Petey's forced to discover what it really means to be Ranger-tough.
The Dive bomber
"Three thousand feet up, still howling straight at the earth, the dive bomber was due to level out. Lucky would have given ten years of his life to have been in that plane instead of O'Neal. Up there it was too loud and hectic to think. Down here it was terrible. The plane's nose pulled up slightly, fighting the inertia which strove to dash the silver wings to fragments against the dusty earth ..."--Publisher.
The phantom patrol

Arctic wings
"Arctic Wings is a celebration in word and image of the birds that have journeyed to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and back every year since time immemorial. In 200 color images from nature photographers Subhankar Banerjee, Steven Kazlowski, Michio Hoshino, Authur Morris, Mark Wilson, and Hugh Rose, we experience an intense drama of birth and renewal. Essays by biologists and conservationists detail the life histories of representative bird species from every major group including loons and waterfowl, raptors, shorebirds, gulls and terns, owls and songbirds, as well as the remarkable birds that over-winter in the refuge, explaining how the unique habitats of the refuge are critical to all. David Allen Sibley reflects on the grand dance of avian migration and the sense of time and place on the earth that it provides; Debbie Miller tells how the perilous journeys of songbirds from the Arctic connect the world's people; Mark Wilson shares his story of discovery canoeing down the refuge's Canning River; Robert Thompson and Sarah James reveal the relationship between birds and Native cultures; Kenn Kaufman considers the connections between the Arctic and the places we love to watch birds; and more." "Arctic Wings reveals the vital importance of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to world bird populations and the consequences of allowing oil exploration within its boundaries."--BOOK JACKET
