Autobiography of Dr. Karl Ernst von Baer
Karl Ernse von Baer is generally acknowledged to have been a thinker of paramount importance in the development of embryology, and he is well known for his broad views of nature.
On insanity and its classification
Aside from containing a thorough review of past and contemporary psychiatric principles, Chiarugi's treatise is the expression of the mind of an unusual man who had the opportunity to observe in an ideal setting the behaviour of patients in developing his diagnostic and therapeutic skills. This work, first published in 1793-94, reflects the insightfulness of his clinical judgement, based on the wealth of data at his disposal, to which are added the descriptions of 100 cases, many of which were controlled by autopsies.
Letters to his parents, 1839 to 1864
Virchow (1821-1902) is considered one of the most outstanding physicians and research scientists of the nineteenth century. They also portray his experience at the 1500-bed Charite Hospital in Berlin. Additional personal letters have been added to this edition.
