Waiting in the shadows

Ishbel Stewart assured herself that she knew all about the past of the dashing and successful businessman, Henry Davis, who had claimed her as his bride. But with each passing day the man she thought she knew grew more like a stranger to her as she sought to unravel the mysteries of the furtive past which haunted this brooding man and threatened not only her marriage but her own life as well. Had this stranger, her husband, driven his first wife to a violent plunge to her death? Were the voices that Ishbel heard in the dead of night behind the locked doors of her husband’s study simply underworld characters with who he shared an evil vice, or the sounds of phantoms of the past?
