Description

Men worship God because they want to know their Creator, to enter into a personal relationship with him by acknowledging their utter dependence on him. This book traces the characteristics of worship as they are revealed in the Bible. The first part describes the nature and significance of the worship offered by Israel in the Old Testament sacrifices, especially those which were clearly "types" of the unique sacrifice of the Cross in which all find their fulfilment. Among those discussed are the sacrifice of Abel, that of Noe, and Abraham's which is seen as an inward sacrifice fully accomplished. Later sacrifices under the law include the Pasch, which acknowledges the majesty of the true God to the pagans, and the sacrifice of the Seven Brothers and their Mother recounted in Machabees. Part two surveys the sacrifice of our Lord upon the Cross in which filial worship, reparation and satisfaction are offered to the Father, and the third part examines the worship we offer to God in the light of Christ crucified.
