"THE result of the discussions in the West, up to this time, on the subject of the Emotions, seems to be that each Emotion is something sui generis, that an organic connection between Emotion and Emotion is not traceable, that it is vain to try to reduce any one Emotion into terms of any other, and that a genuine, unarbitrary, and inartificial classification of these mental phenomena is impossible."
