Shadowed and only dimly visible in the thick London mist on the bank of the river Thames, stood the great house called Edenhythe. And from the moment Rachel entered it, she knew fear. Penniless and haunted by the recent tragedy of her husband's mysterious death, Rachel had nowhere else to turn save her unknown in-laws, the Harwoods.
