First Sentence
"The intention of this book is to suggest that the knowledge and methods of science are not contrary to religion, but may indeed contribute thereto. I have endeavoured, therefore, to express myself in the language of science and have not scrupled to neglect, in large measure, those metaphysical arguments which, conclusive as they are to the philosopher or theologian, are unfamiliar and indeed unintelligible to those who are accustomed to no other data and methods than those of modern science. It is difficult to write accurately of philosophical and theological matters without using the appropriate technical vocabularies; and since I have thought it best to do without these convenient but unattractive modes of expression, I ask that the best construction should be placed upon any inexact or ambiguous language."

Description

Originally published in 1945, The Fourfold Vision makes a welcome return. Here is the full integration of science and issues of faith from the pen of a master. Dr. Sherwood Taylor has gained great respect for his work on The Alchemist and many other books where scientific investigation meets with matters of faith and belief. He was the first editor of ‘Ambix’ magazine and was Director at the Museum of History of Science in Oxford. Join him here on a classic journey from the centre of Science and Philosophy to the heart of Art and Nature.
