Description
>There have been many retellings of classical myths for children, but the sources are so rich that there is still room for a different approach. In this anthology the editor's aim is to guide the readers towards classical literature. 'Achilles and the Death of Hector' is a direct though shortened translation from Homer; the stories of Antigone and Agamemnon follow the plots of the plays by Sophocles and Aeschylus; 'The Wanderings of Aeneas' is based on the Aeneid and 'The Golden Ass' on Apuleius. Even where there is no immediate source, the editor has set out to present the stories in the way which will be most helpful to children in their future reading.
