Wyndham Lewis

Percy Wyndham Lewis (18 November 1882 – 7 March 1957) was a Canadian-born British writer, painter and critic. He was a co-founder of the Vorticist movement in art and edited Blast, the literary magazine of the Vorticists. Lewis is known for his novels Tarr (1918) and The Apes of God (1930), short story collection The Wild Body (1927), and autobiography Blasting and Bombardiering (1937).

Description

יום השנה החדשה, 1990. חומת ברלין נופלת. המלחמה הקרה באה אל סיומה. בקרוב לא יהיו עוד אויבים לארצות- הברית ולצבא לא יהיה במי להילחם. העולם עומד להשתנות. ג` ריצ`ר, קצין תורן של המשטרה הצבאית בבסיס בקרוליינה הצפונית, מרים את הטלפון ומקבל דיווח על חייל שנמצא מת במוטל זול. ריצ`ר מבקש מהמשטרה המקומית לטפל במקרה- התקפי לב הם דבר שבשגרה. כשמתברר שהחייל המת הוא גנרל שני-כוכבים, מפקד השריון האמריקני באירופה, ריצ`ר חייב להתערב. אך כשהוא מגיע לביתו של הגנרל כדי להודיע על מותו, הוא מוצא גופה נוספת: גופת אשתו של הגנרל.
