"Our special correspondent, whom we lately sent to accompany General Hancock's expedition, overtook the command on the banks of the Saline, and in a letter which has been delayed writes thus: - "A ride of forty-seven miles (from Solomon City) brought us within view of General Hancock's expedition, encamped on the banks of the Saline River, a small, muddy, but swift stream, which empties itself into the Smoky Hill River five miles below the town of Salina."
