About Author

Description

This is essentially a travel guide to the city of Montreal, with suggested walking routes for the tourist. It contains detailed discussions of popular sites and monuments of historical interest, such as the Chateau de Ramezay, where in 1775 Benjamin Franklin and his associates held their consultations during the American Invasion, and where Franklin's printing press was set up. This compact volume is full of fascinating facts and descriptions of buildings, some of which no longer exist, making this a precious record of Montreal's past. The author, W. D. Lighthall was a graduate of McGill University, a proud Montrealer, and fervent British Imperialist. He was a prolific writer: poet, novelist and historian, and was a major Canadian cultural advocate.
