It came as a great shock to Naomi and her mother when the fortune they had confidently expected to inherit from an elderly relative was left to someone else - a nephew they had never heard of, and had had no idea even existed. They had set such store on their expectations - and really, who could blame them? So, when an invitation for Naomi came from the unknown heir's family, Mrs. Thurrock couldn't help wondering optimistically if they had some idea of putting things right; an eventual match between Naomi and Jerome Fennell could be a happy solution for everyone.
