Description

Volumne One begins with the very first expeditions exploring Seattle. The book is a very personal rendition that makes for plenty of humor along the read. An example, the name Juan de Fuca, as in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, was provided over drinks at a local bar. Later, after the name had begun appearing in maps, it was determined that there really was no Juan de Fuca. It was just a story from a drunk sailor. Another example, What we call Apple Tree Point is fun because the apple trees seen from the ship that document the name, were later discovered not to be apple trees at all. Nevertheless, the name took hold. The book is full of interesting tidbits. After reading, as you drive through Seattle, many streets, areas, and buildings will come to life in a way you have never experienced before. I love Seattle. And this is a must read to really appreciate what we have. Volumne One is much more than a history. But a history it is.
