Description
The story of the author's boyhood on the plains of eastern Colorado where his family homesteaded in 1909 when he was nine years old. There were few neighbors and many chores but Hal found much to interest hime in the birds, the animals, and the changing seasons. It was a hard life for the family in that dry, short-grass region, but they persisted until they gained their own land.
