Fritz Hommel

[Deutsch] Fritz Hommel (geb. 1854 in Ansbach; gest. 1936 in München) war ein deutscher Orientalist. Von 1885 bis 1925 war Hommel Professor für semitische Sprachen in München. Sein Hauptwerk war der „Grundriss der Geographie und Geschichte des Alten Orients“ (1904), das 1926 von [Iwan von Müller]und [Walter F. Otto]unter dem Titel „Ethnologie und Geographie des Alten Orients“ erneut heraus gegeben wurde. Fritz Hommels Sohn war der klassische Philologe [Hildebrecht Hommel (1899–1996)]. [English] Fritz Hommel (b. 1854 in Ansbach, d. in 1936 in Munich) was a German orientalist. From 1885 to 1925 he was professor of Semitic languages in Munich. His main work was the “Grundriss der Geographie und Geschichte des Alten Orients” ("Sketch of the geography and history of the Ancient Near East") (1904), in 1926 re-issued under the title "Ethnologie und Geographie des Alten Orients" by [Iwan von Müller]and [Walter F. Otto]. Fritz Hommel's son was the classical philologist [Hildebrecht Hommel (1899–1996)]. Literature
