Here for the first time an attempt has been made to provide in dictionary form somewhat comprehensive information as to the entire process through which in the last five centuries Christianity has grown from a western to a universal religion. Its aim is to cover the extension of the Christian church, and its evangelistic encounter with mankind, during the period from 1492, when Columbus first made contact with the inhabitants of lands west of the Atlantic, to the present day. - Preface.
