Traces the Church's legacy of music from the earliest days of the Church to modern times, describing clearly and concisely the changing trends of thought and technique by which Christian music has developed through the ages. In the first chapter, the author notes the effect Hebrew sacred music had on early Christian song. Later chapters are devoted to the development of religious music from the primtive change of the early Church to the rich splendor of Gregorian chant.
