Description
American photographer Arnold Genthe is a pioneer of dance photography as an art form. In 1916 he published The Book of the Dance, the first true photobook dedicated to dance, in which the images not merely served to illustrate the text. Long exposure times made recording dance well-nigh impossible for many decades, but Nicky van Banning shows how Genthe used this drawback to advantage, especially to suggest movement.
