This is book is the story of Fritz Joubert Duquesne. He accompanied Teddy Roosevelt on his African expedition in 1909. He wrote a campaign song for TR in 1912. Joubert’s family were murdered by Kitchener’s army in South Africa. He swore revenge and almost killed Kitchener at the end of the 2nd Boer War. Duquesne disguised himself as a Russian Duke and joined Kitchener on a mission to Russia during WWI. He signalled U-75 to torpedo the ship and was picked up as the ship sank, by U-75. Kitchener drowned. Duquesne went on to lead a German spy ring in 1930’s NYC. He was convicted and jailed just before Pearl Harbor. He died at the hospital on Roosevelt Island in the mid 1950’s.
