This edition of 'Othello' sheds new light on the text of the play as we have come to know it, and on our knowledge of its early history. Honigmann examines the major critical issues, the play in performance and the relationship between reading it and seeing it. He also explores topics such as its date, sources and the conundrum of 'double time'.

Contains thirteen volumes of plays by Shakespeare, with annotations by Munn, who took English 2, taught by George Lyman Kittredge, in both 1909-1910 and 1913-1914 (the second time as a graduate student). There are pencilled notes in some of the volumes by Lionel de Jersey Harvard, to whom Munn loaned the volumes in 1913-1914. Other notes are by Arthur Cushman McGiffert, who took the course in 1911-1912. There are some handwritten notes by Munn explaining what books he used in which year of the course.
