Books
The Hat
The black top hat with magic powers blew into the one-legged soldier's life, made him a wealthy man, and then blew out again.
Flat Stanley
After a bulletin board falls on Stanley while he's sleeping, he finds that being flat has its advantages.
Crictor
The boa constrictor is a very helpful pet especially when there are burglars in the neighborhood. An agreeable pet boa constrictor earns the affection and gratitude of a French village. "Un día, Madame Bodot recibe un extraño paquete. Es el regalo de cumpleaños que su hijo le envía desde Brasil. Cuál será su sorpresa cuando, al abrir la caja, sale Críctor, una boa constrictor bebé. Ella lo adopta y con el tiempo la serpiente, además de ayudar se convierte en héroe." --From publisher's description.
I am Papa Snap and these are my favorite no such stories
A collection of nonsense stories in which Papa Snap is eaten by a sofa, Uncle Rimsky lights his cigars with dragons, Mrs. Maroon irons her laundry with a steam roller, and Mr. Tuber Sprout gets up to miss the train every morning.
The Mellops Go Diving for Treasure
"One day Mr. Mellops finds a dusty old trunk in his attic, and before they know it, the family are embarking on a journey of discovery. But treasure is not the only thing waiting for these intrepid pigs below the ocean's surface"--Publisher's description.
Allumette
Granted her wishes for all the good things she never had, an impoverished orphan is so deluged with commodities that she opens a headquarters for distributing them to the world's poor.
The Mellops strike oil
While on a family picnic Mr. Mellops notices the mountain water has an awful taste, like oil. Soon, the intrepid Mellops embark on a quest that takes them to the library, the museum and eventually an oil field!
Adelaide
"One day, brave and adventurous Adelaide leaves her kangaroo family behind and flies off to see the world. She visits lots of exciting places but eventually she decides to stay in Paris where she finds fame, fortune and a handsome kangaroo called Leon"--
Cats As Cats Can
A delightfully varied and expressive collection of single panel cartoons, caricaturing the behavior and personalities of cats (and rats and mice) or integrating drawings of them into abstract and very creative designs. Whether you like cats or don't care for them, I guarantee these little vignettes will make you smile. I was fortunate to find a collection of postcards of most of them at one time and have them framed above the desk in my office. Ungerer is a brilliant designer and draftsman, and the mastery of line and composition in the drawings is wonderful as well as his understanding of feline nature. A lovely book and a fine gift for a cat or cartoon lover.
