A great family adventure. Timeless is a great description for this story. I first read it in junior high and carried my tattered copy with me everywhere. Forever I wanted to go on an adventure like theirs. I only eat trout the way I was taught by this book.

Mike McGonnigle, a retired prospector, tries to set up housekeeping on a lake of which he owns only the water. With a household that includes two burros, a family of beavers, a hoary marmot, a badger, and a five foot king snake, complications arise.
