Q Clearance
In this novel the author of Jaws reveals that he knows as much about the White House as he does about the sea: a knowledge which is the 'special ingredient' in an irresistibly hilarious and suspenseful story. Timothy Burnham works – as Peter Benchley once did – as a speechwriter to the President. He has been in the same room as the great man, but only with a lot of other people, and he likes it that way – he is that rarity in Washington, a man with no appetite for power. By a quirk of bureaucracy Burnham is given Q Clearance, which means that every day he receives documents crammed with the highest atomic secrets of which he understands not a word, and which he has to shred every night. Big joke, thinks Burham – but he does not laugh when for unfathomable reasons he suddenly becomes the President's blue-eyed boy. That, he knows, is more than he can cope with – except that, exhilaratingly, the terrifying old man seems to bring out in Burnham more than Burnham knew was there. While this nerve-racking relationship is developing, Burnham meets a lovely blonde. It does not occur to him that a lovely blonde might show obvious interest in a man with Q Clearance, who enjoys the confidence of his President, for some reason other than their enjoyable compatibility. Add to this situation a White House cleaning lady from Bermuda who is desperate to procure for her son a certificate of graduation from high school; an enigmatic caterer whose past is known to nobody (or at least, to nobody in the United States); and several members of the President's Cabinet – figures who would be larger than life if they were not so devastatingly true to it – and you have a spy novel that is pure pleasure: a wonderful balancing act between fidelity to a mind-boggling reality and a genius for entertainment.
The Girl of the Sea of Cortez

White Shark
"At a small marine institute off the coast of Connecticut, only marine biologist Simon Chase realizes that a sixteen-foot pregnant Great White is feeding in the area. But even Simon doesn't know that a far deadlier creature is about to come out of the deep and threaten everything he cares for. A creature whose malevolence is unthinkable. Whose need to feed is insatiable. And whose relentless hunt for prey is unstoppable"

Rummies
Everyone knows that New York book editor Scott Preston is a lush except Scott Preston. A double vodka for breakfast doesn't mean he has a problem, right? Scott doesn't listen to reason, but he does listen to threats--he'll lose his wife and his job if he doesn't enter New Mexico's Banner Rehabilitation Clinic. Okay, he'll go, but he's no rummy like the crazies in that place--the salesman in a bunny suit, the tough-love hooker, the sensuous heiress, the bombshell film star, and the Mafia drunkard who must get sober--or die. It's all just too funny. Until things get serious. Someone dies in an "accident." Someone else vanishes. Everyone suspects everyone else. And Scott Preston realizes that rummies have to stick together.

The island
Shaw is in Fiji to sell a stolen painting to the crime boss, Vornis. It will be the deal of a lifetime, if Shaw can pull it off. But then Vornis parades his latest toy around in front of him—a captured DEA agent whose time is running out. It’s none of Shaw’s business, and it doesn’t matter that under any other circumstances Lee would be exactly Shaw’s type: he’s young, he’s hot, and he might even have a personality if they hadn’t beaten it out of him. Too bad there’s no way Lee is getting off the island. Too bad there’s nothing Shaw can do for him. And too bad there are some lines that even Shaw won’t cross. Keeping his hands off Lee proves harder than he thinks, but Shaw’s not stupid enough to fall for the tortured captive of a dangerous crime boss, is he? If he did, it wouldn’t be just his job he would be risking—it would be his life.
Beast
The stunning new novel from the prizewinning author of The Wake Beast plunges you into the world of Edward Buckmaster, a man alone on an empty moor in the west of England. What he has left behind we don't yet know. What he faces is an existential battle with himself, the elements, and something he begins to see in the margins of his vision: some creature that is tracking him, the pursuit of which will become an obsession. This short, shocking, and exhilarating novel is a vivid exploration of isolation, courage, and the search for truth that continues the story set one thousand years earlier in Paul Kingsnorth's bravura debut novel, The Wake . It extends that book's promise and confirms Kingsnorth as one of our most daring and rewarding contemporary writers.

Jaws
Our jaws are getting smaller, and our teeth are growing in crooked and crowded, This creates not only aesthetic challenges but also difficulties with breathing. Modern orthodontics can straighten our teeth, but don't address the underlying causes of this rapid shift in oral evolution, and the health risks posed by obstructed airways. Kahn and Ehrlich discuss the biological, dietary, and cultural changes that have created this health challenge, and propose simple adjustments that can alleviate the situation.
