Patricia is the former Director of Research & Patient Care Services at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She retired in 2017 with more than 45 years of nursing experience. She is the co-author of the leading textbook, Fundamentals of Nursing now in its 10th edition. She’s authored fundamentals textbooks for the last 30 years, providing comprehensive coverage on the foundation of nursing, from basic concepts to essential skills. Over the years she’s collected many accolades, including the 2017 Legend in Nursing award and 2016 Nurse of the Year – Research from Missouri March of Dimes, and the 2014 Distinguished Alumni Award from Saint Louis University, School of Nursing. She also founded the “Nurses for Ferguson” scholarship for high school graduates from the Ferguson-Florissant school district who have been accepted by a school or college of nursing. In 2003 she was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing.
