Deborah Tarrant planned to come to Malta for a holiday with her mother, but now she is all alone. She forms a friendship with six-year-old Alec, who has a secret about a dead body that no one believes. When he disappears, and so does his nanny, it looks as if he might have been telling the truth.

The FBI thinks Agent Fox Mulder is weird or worse. He keeps insisting that aliens are running amok on earth. His lovely and level-headed partner, Agent Dana Scully, is supposed to keep him in line.
