Wittgenstein in Cambridge
"This volume collects practically all significant correspondence and documents relating to Ludwig Wittgenstein's long association with Cambridge, between his arrival in 1911 and his death there in 1951. The letters he exchanged with his most illustrious Cambridge contemporaries Russell, Keynes, Moore and Ramsey (previously published as Cambridge Letters) art included with updated notes. Some 200 previously unpublished letters and documents are added, including 40 letters from Wittgenstein to his friend and Cambridge contemporary, the economist Piero Sraffa. Many letters from or to followers, pupils, friends or younger colleagues are included, showing his influence on them and the ideals they tried to put into practice in their own teaching or writing. The friends and followers of his last years - Rush Rhees, G. H. von Wright and Norman Malcolm - close the series. Minutes of meetings representing Wittgenstein's incursions into University business and The Moral Science Club are also included in their chronological place." "Anyone interested in Wittgenstein's philosophy, his life or University life in the first half of the last century will find something in this book, fully annotated and providing lists of correspondents, index and cross-references."--BOOK JACKET.
Major works
"Major Works is the finest single-volume anthology of influential philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein's important writings. Featuring the complete texts of Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus, The Blue and Brown Books: Studies for 'Philosophical 'Investigations,' and-On Certainty, this new collection selects from the early, middle, and later career of this revolutionary thinker, widely recognized as one of the most profound minds of all time."--BOOK JACKET.
Wittgenstein's Nachlass
This computerized edition of Wittgenstein's complete philosophical writings includes digitized images with instant access to the 20,000 facsimiles and transcriptions cataloged by von Wright in his 1982 publication, The Wittgenstein papers. They are presented in two both an uncluttered, Normalized reading-text and in a detailed, Diplomatic study-text format.
Cambridge letters
The discovery, in various quarters, of hitherto unknown letters exchanged between Wittgenstein and the chief of his Cambridge friends provides the basis for this new and profoundly revealing collection. Wittgenstein appears in turn shy and affectionate, fierce and censorious, happy to collaborate and sure of his own judgement. Four quarrels and four reconciliations are documented. Wittgenstein's struggles to publish his Tractatus may be followed, as well as his retreat from the world, his being wooed back to philosophy by Keynes and Ramsey, and his plans to leave philosophy. The accompanying editorial notes are based on archival material not previously explored. Taken together, the correspondence provides an intriguing insight into Wittgenstein's life and thought, and will be essential reading for students and scholars.
The Wittgenstein reader
"This popular collection of Wittgenstein's key writings represents the breadth and complexity of the philosopher's work. It follows the evolution of Wittgenstein's philosophical thought from the Tractatus Logico Philosophicus through the Blue and Brown Books to his later work in the Philosophical Investigations. The excerpts are arranged by topic and introduce readers to all the central concerns of Wittgenstein's philosophy, including meaning and understanding, intentionality, rule following, private language, necessity, scepticism and certainty."--Jacket.
