What the Eldredge bestsellers Wild at Heart did for men, and Captivating did for women, LOVE & WAR will do for married couples everywhere. John and Stasi Eldredge have contributed the quintessential works on Christian spirituality through the experience of men and the experience of women and now they turn their focus to the incredible dynamic between those two forces. With refreshing openness that will grab readers from the first page, the Eldredges candidly discuss their own marriage and the insights they've gained from the challenges they faced. Each talks independently to the reader about what they've learned, giving their guidance personal immediacy and a balance between the male and female perspectives that has been absent from all previous books on this topic. They begin LOVE & WAR with an obvious but necessary acknowledgement: Marriage is fabulously hard. They advise that the sooner we get the shame and confusion off our backs, the sooner we'll find our way through. LOVE & WAR shows couples how to fight for their love and happiness, calling men and women to step into the great adventure God has waiting for them together. Walking alongside John and Stasi Eldredge, every couple can discover how their individual journeys are growing into a story of meaning much greater than anything they could do or be on their own. From the Hardcover edition.

Hidden Memories
Alien abductions, satanic kidnappings, the channeling of spirits, the recall of past lives--these and similar bizarre experiences are reported almost daily by the media. Is there a rational explanation for these strange events? According to psychologist Robert A. Baker, such irregular or "supernatural" experiences are manifestations of cryptomnesia, or hidden memories, a phenomenon in which experiences that originally make little conscious impression are filed away in the brain and later are suddenly remembered in altered form. Referring to the most recent scientific evidence on memory and the brain, Dr. Baker dispels many supernatural beliefs, outlining what should and should not be defined as mental disease and how the boundaries of what can be termed normal but aberrant behavior can be confused by therapists, particularly those susceptible to fringe beliefs. He also explains how delusions and illusions affect behavior and discusses the role of hypnosis, imagination, and suggestion in the creation of otherworldly experiences. In the final chapters, Baker looks at how the media has aided and abetted paranormal beliefs and promoted the growth of superstition and urban legends.

Dangerous legacy
Hungry for work, an ex-air force pilot takes a deadly assignment in Manila. Despite three years of exemplary service flying for his country in the South Pacific, Spence Rankin can't find work. He's losing a bar fight in San Francisco when his old friend Ulio Kane appears. A former companion of Rankin's, Kane was born in Manila and spent the war organizing guerilla warfare against the Japanese. They killed his family during the occupation, so Kane faked his death and set about preparing for peacetime life. But now Kane has received a plea for help, signed by his father -- who's supposed to be dead. Is the note genuine, or is it a trap lain by his enemies in the mining business? He must return to Manila to be sure, and wants to hire Spence as a bodyguard. The pilot agrees to take the job, for death in the tropics is preferable to boredom in California.
