John Noble
John Noble Wilford (October 4, 1933 – December 8, 2025) was an American author and science journalist for The New York Times. He wrote the front-page article in the Times about the Apollo 11 landing. Wilford was a Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting winner.

John Updike's sixteenth novel takes place in a stylized Brazil where almost anything is possible, if you are young and in love. Tristao Raposo, a nineteen-year-old black child of the Rio slums, and Isabel Leme, an eighteen-year-old upper-class white girl, meet on Copacabana Beach; their flight into marriage takes them to the farthest reaches of Brazil's wild west. Privation, violence, captivity, and reversals of fortune afflict them; his mother curses them, her father harries them with hirelings, and neither lover is absolutely faithful. Yet Tristao and Isabel hold to the faith that each is the other's fate for life, as they pass - in Shakespeare's phrase - "through nature to eternity." Spanning twenty-two years, from the mid-Sixties to the late Eighties, Brazil surprises and embraces the reader with its celebration of passion, loyalty, and New World innocence.

Il 13 settembre 1973, a Santiago del Cile, avrebbe dovuto essere inaugurata l'esposizione Orozco, Rivera, Siqueiros. Pintura mexicana, ma due giorni prima il generale Augusto Pinochet ruppe gli indugi dando il via al golpe che lo mantenne al potere nei diciassette anni successivi. I quadri di José Clemente Orozco, Diego Rivera e David Alfaro Siqueiros vennero quindi imballati in tutta fretta e imbarcati su un volo di Aeroméxico insieme ai famigliari dell'appena destituito Salvador Allende, facendo ritorno nei musei messicani dai quali provenivano. Dopo oltre quarant'anni, il volume documenta la mostra sospesa, come venne poi definita, attraverso una selezione di opere dei tre artisti, esponenti di spicco della pittura muralista: capolavori a contenuto politico che testimoniano, in modo efficace e coinvolgente, la loro poetica, emblema della modernità messicana nel mondo. Il volume è infine arricchito da un'ampia e affascinante raccolta di foto d'epoca, scattate da personaggi e fotografi noti, dedicata alla vicenda artistica e sentimentale di Diego Rivera e Frida Kahlo che, alternando grandi passioni a drammatici scontri, è diventata quasi un paradigma del loro tempo.
