Description

Jack Woodford was born Josiah Pitts Woolfolk, and raised in Chicago by his grandmother. His father was a physician who moved his practice from Sioux City, Iowa to Chicago and then went on to teach diagnosis at Rush Medical College. Woodford wrote erotic pulp novels and nonfiction. His books were very successful, and in the 1930s he founded Jack Woodford Press. In addition to his popular books on how to write and get published, he was famous for writing Trial and Error, which caused a scandal with its frank description of the publishing industry.

Mr. Todhunter lived an ordinary life in an ordinary bachelor's flat in London. He took tea at the same time every day and his habits were totally predictable. Until he learned he had only months to live—and decided to make one dramatic last gesture...to rid the world of the worst person he could find. But once the deed was done, something quite unpredictable happened. An innocent man was convicted of the crime, and it was up to Mr. Todhunter to prove himself guilty of murder.

Jack Woodford's “Illegitimate” explicitly deals with homosexuality ... in 1933. In a no-nonsense and sympathetic literary handling. This is not an erotic book by today's standards.
