Ghosts of Yesterday

Ghosts of Yesterday is a stunning new collection by multiple-award-winning author Jack Cady (The Off Season, The Haunting of Hood Canal). Cady captures the sights and emotions of America, from the Pacific Northwest ("Jeremiah"), to the streets of San Francisco ("The Lady With the Blind Dog"), to the Midwest-heartland ("Halloween 1942"), along the roads and highways in between ("The Ghost of Dive Bomber Hill"), and back into the history of the American Southeast ("The Time That Time Forgot"). The stories that make up Ghosts of Yesterday are detailed and realistic portraits of the world that, despite (and perhaps because) of their authenticity, manage to convey a sense of wonder and fantastic, where anything is possible. The characters and places that Cady brings to life demonstrate clearly why he is one of the most versatile and respected writers today ... His stories will move you, and change the way you look at the world.

The American Writer

"Having considered the subject for more than sixty years, Jack Cady shares his knowledge of the American writer in this book. The American Writer is both an open letter to young writers and a lovely overview for anyone interested in reading."--BOOK JACKET. "Cady traces the threads of sin and original good in American literature, examines the thorny question of race, and explores the fantastic in modern fiction. He looks anew at familiar writers like Hemingway and Steinbeck, and repeatedly focuses on storytellers who have fallen out of favor today."--BOOK JACKET.

The off season

When the first whites moved to the region, they asked the Indians where to settle. The Indians pointed to the site of Point Vestal and said, "Take that. We don't want it. It is cursed.". Point Vestal sits on the edge of the Pacific, suffering now from the curse. Ghosts walk among the living, and time operates differently for everyone. Some people live in 1995, some in 1973, and some in 1893. Victorians mingle with the tourists. In one old building the front door leads into a different year from the side entrance. Into this town comes Joel-Andrew, an itinerant preacher who knows too well of sin, and Obed, a dark gray cat who learned to dance on his hind legs. Their arrival sparks a change in Point Vestal. It's about time for a change, though - and that change is about time itself.

A two act farce about a pair of young lovers who live in an English village on opposite sides of a heavily trafficked superhighway.

Inagehi

From award-winner Jack Cady, a new novel that is part murder-mystery, part classical tragedy, part spiritual journey. Set among the Cherokee of North Carolina in the 1950s, Inagehi is the story of a young woman who inherits a mountain and the mystery of her father's death. With themes as ancient as the existence of God and as modern as post-traumatic stress disorder, Inagehi answers that voice inside us all that asks how "it" all fits together. A work of uncommon power from a master craftsman.

The Jonah watch

Supposedly a true story framed in the format of a novel, The Jonah Watch is based on Jack Cady's experiences while serving on a Coast Guard cutter off the coast of Maine. Trapped on an icebound cutter, the crew of the Adrian are haunted by apparitions, and the resulting terror and paranoia make for a claustrophobic tale of initiation and survival.
