Ivy Gordon Edmonds was born and raised in Hillsboro, Texas. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific. After listening to a native chief's creation story, Edmonds became interested in folklore, and he began to collect folk tales in the countries he visited during his 23 year service with the Air Force. He began publishing folklore stories with "Solomon in Kimono," a tale of the 18th-century Japanese judge Ooka Tadasuke, which was published in Pacific Stars & Stripes in 1956. His first book, Ooka the Wise was published in 1961.

In the history of human development probably no subject is more interesting than the gradual evolution of spiritual ideals, or the endeavour to regulate man's conduct in the ordinary relations of life by determinate ethical standards.

Ethiopia is a compendium on Ethiopia and Northeast Africa for travellers, students, businessmen, people interested in Africa, policymakers and organisations. In this book 85 specialists from 15 countries write about the land of our fossil ancestor 'Lucy', about its rock-hewn churches and national parks, about the coexistence of Christians and Muslims, and about strange cultures, but also about contemporary developments and major challenges to the region. Across ten chapters they describe the land and people, its history, cultures, religions, society and politics, as well as recent issues and unique destinations, documented with tables, maps, further reading suggestions and photos.

"This book attempts to provide a description and interpretation of the religion of the Hindus as practised and experienced by them. A wholly original exposition of Hinduism, it focuses on Hindu religious psychology and behaviour rather than the mythology, dogmas, and rituals as found in the religious texts. Rejecting familiar assumptions about early Hinduism, Nirad C. Chaudhuri makes a reassessment of its formative influences, and goes on to examine temple and image worship in general, as well as the three major cults of Siva, Krishna, and the Mother Goddess." --Goodreads.

This documentary history of Islam from the advent of the prophet Muhammed to the capture of Constantinople by Sultan Mehmed, the Conqueror, is concerned with a period that extends from the 7th century to 1453; with a region that stretches from Western Arabia to embrace the Middle East, North Africa, and parts of Asia, tropical Africa, and southern and eastern Europe; and with people and states, which, amid many diversities, share a common acceptance of the faith and law of Islam. Bernard Lewis, a widely-known authority on the Middle East, here translates from original sources and documents works that present the sweeping civilization of Islam in all its vastness and glory.
