Ellery Queen's Eyes of Mystery
Court of Foxes
The country is England. It is the eighteenth century. A rich and spellbinding tapestry of r0mance and adventure unfolds during the reign of George the Third, sweeping from the splendor and glitter of London to the green and rugged valleys of the distant Welsh countryside. Who is the mysterious and beautiful young woman, talked of and admired by all of London? And who is the wild and flaxen-haired creature, ruthless and predatory, riding like the wind over dark, forbidding country roads with a silver pistol in her belt? Against the chandelier brilliance of London, the candlelit elegance of the great lady's mansion and the dark and romantic backdrop of the highwayman's lair, the drama is acted out. In the courtesan's boudoir and the rough, barbaric splendor of a fortress of rocks, this exciting story of the Unattainable Lady - of Madam Vixen of the Court of Foxes - moves toward its surprising and breathtaking finale.
Bodies from the Library
Suddenly at his residence
Up in her bedroom, Ellen wept into her pillow. Down in the woodland, Philip and Claire kissed and clung and could not keep the thought of a dead man's money from their minds. Up and down the gravelled drive Peta walked with her love and would not speak kindly to him because he had brought all this trouble upon them "instead of just letting poor Grandfather be buried and not making any fuss." On the marble terrace Bella sat listlessly, her pretty face swollen with tears of pity and loneliness and grief; and down on the lawn among the buttercups and daisies Edward grew weary of Rosy-Posy's artless prattle and suddenly wondered what it would be like to stick a hypodermic needle into her; and whether it was himself, the real Edward, just thinking it to frighten himself, or whether it was his other self who had put the thought into his head—and whether he was mad, whether he was dangerous, whether he was already once a murderer ..

Death of Jezebel
>At Elysian Hall, a grand exhibition space in post-War London, a cast has been assembled for a medieval-themed pageant show replete with knights in coloured armour, real horses, and a damsel in a rickety tower on high. With death threats discovered by members of the troupe before the show, the worst comes to pass when the leading lady is thrown from the tower before the eyes of the audience by an unknown assailant – with all doors backstage also under observation. Faced with a seemingly impossible case, the wizened Inspector Cockrill and the fresh-faced Inspector Charlesworth begrudgingly join forces to uncover the killer hiding in plain sight.

Danger Unlimited
MUFFLED up in the family's big silver limousine while the terrible Dartmoor mist closed in about him, young Bill Reddeven—sick of being pampered and mollycoddled at home—rebelled at the thought of having to spend part of his holidays in the company of a mere girl. But before the mist had rolled away, he found himself breathlessly involved in a series of adventures that took him right across Dartmoor and to the wild Welsh coast; that introduced him to the massive Terrible Musician, who had a wooden leg, and to his mysterious "twin," who had a steel hook instead of a hand; and to the Smiling Young Man, whose smile froze the marrow in your bones. ... And to Patch, that charming little person whose high courage and gift of mimicry saved them from one appalling danger, only to pitch them headlong into another!
Death in High Heels
It all began with a dirty panama hat. How best to clean it? The sales staff at the exclusive salon, Christophe et Cie, finally decided on oxalic acid as the best method of removing the offending marks. They weren't to know it at the time, but it was also to prove the best method of murdering one of their colleagues. The unfortunate Miss Don had been in line for a plum job at the company's new branch in Deauville, and there had been considerable speculation as to whether she or the universally disliked Miss Gregory would be chosen. But shortly after learning that she would be the one to remain in London, Doon was to die an agonising death at the hands of a poisoner. Young Mr Charlesworth from Scotland Yard, a man uncomfortably susceptible to the charms of ladies, is called in to unravel this increasingly muddling and complex case, only to find his task further complicated by the fact that all his chief suspects are female! But before he has identified the culprit there is another poisoning ...
London Particular
>Night falls in London, and a ‘London particular’ pea-souper fog envelops the city. In Maida Vale, Rose and her family doctor Tedwards race through the dark after a man has telephoned claiming that he has been struck by an assailant in Rose’s house. Arriving after an achingly protracted journey through the impenetrable fog, the victim, Raoul Vernet, is dead. The news which he had brought from Switzerland for Rose’s mother was never delivered. >Seven suspects had the opportunity – though their alibis are muddled by the obscuring blanket of fog – but who among them had a motive? And as friends to each other, would every one of them claim responsibility to protect another? Inspector Cockrill – also a friend of the family – has a fiendish case ahead of him as his young rival Inspector Charlesworth joins the investigation, keen to see justice done for this unusual murder.

But just as he begins to piece together the mystery of how Gary Soneji could have mortally wounded Cross after he was believed to be dead, he is summoned to Paris with a postcard from Mr. Smith inviting him to a very special killing. The body count is high, the tension the highest, and the two killers on the loose are watching every move their pursuers make.
