The young Earl of Blakeney, who served with distinction in the Duke of Wellington's army, returned to England and lost all his money at the gaming tables. Lady Aleda was the bride of a stranger! It had happened so quickly--her brother's ruinous debt, then mysterious Doran Winton's sudden appearance, his astonishing offer... Of the man she had wed, Aleda knew nothing, only that he was recently returned from abroad, and that his tall, authoritative presence somehow... disturbed her innocent senses. Nevertheless, the captivating, proud young aristocrat was determined that their marriage would be in name only. And--to Aleda's bewilderment--her handsome husband seemed to agree!

Noell Armstrong's father had been a delightful rake in his day, but when he died his only legacy was a mountain of debts and a houseful of puppies-the offspring of the exotic dog the Viscount had brought home to his wife during his days with the Foreign Office. Happily, when Noelle inherited her aunt's townhouse and a bit of money, a London debut was once again a possibility. What better way to attract the attention of the ton than by creating a new rage for delightful little Maltese dogs? Noelle's puppy ad in the London Gazette brings quick response… from one of London's most eligible bachelors, the Earl of Wrenthe. And amid a flurry of white fur, spirited sparring and secret capers, the lovely young Noelle quickly wins her entrée to Almacks and to the heart of the Earl as well!
